17th World Conference of Historic Cities

"Historical and Cultural Heritage as the Basis of National-Cultural and Local Identity"

The 17th World Conference of Historic Cities "Historical and Cultural Heritage as the Basis of National-Cultural and Local Identity" will be held from June 24-26, 2021 in Kazan. The event will take place in a hybrid format (online and offline participation).

The conference will bring together mayors, members of the League of Historic Cities, experts in the preservation of native language, folk traditions, folklore, gastronomic traditions, etc. to exchange experiences in heritage preservation.

At the opening of the Conference the anthem of the League, written by Kazan authors, will be performed for the first time. On June 25, the General Assembly of the League of Historic Cities will meet.

Plenary sessions will focus on the following topics:

  • Ethnic harmony within a large city,

  • Historical and cultural heritage in COVID-19 pandemic,

  • Preservation and development of native languages in a multiethnic environment,

  • Connection of the past, present and future: ancient traditions in modern conditions.

Representatives of the historic cities of the world are invited to participate in the meetings, which will have the opportunity not only to exchange experiences, but also to get acquainted with the activities of the League of Historic Cities and join the ranks of its members.

The event includes the International online children's drawing contest "I see the world: traditions of the peoples of the world," the results of which will be summed up in the days of the conference.

The guests of the Conference will have an excursion to the Kazan Kremlin and participate in the events of the Sabantuy national holiday on June 26, 2021. Also during the conference days there will be a parade of national costumes, where citizens of Kazan and participants of the event will march through the city streets, showing their national costumes.

Participants, who will not be able to come to Kazan in person, will be able to get acquainted with the architecture of the ancient city on online tours, watch broadcast events Sabantuy and national costume parade.
